The Tough Shift

FAQs

Some of the most common questions I get asked

The best resource for information is hearing what people just like you have asked in the past. Please see what has prompted others’ curiosity and, if you have a question of your own, please click here to email it now.

Paradigms are established beliefs upon which people make decisions. People who shift their paradigms create new possibilities. As someone looking to live their best life, being able to identify limiting paradigms and influence your lifestyle results is a key skill for success.

I define strategy as determining the optimal way to reach an identified target. Strategy has to consider what’s not working or available and may push the edges of a person’s comfort zone at first glance. Good strategy is invisible to the public eye because it seems so natural but it takes planning, creativity, long-range vision and articulation to put it together. It is rare that people can create a good lifestyle strategy on their own, especially when their goal takes personal transformation. It helps to have an experienced guide as a sounding board… basically, a coach to help.

It depends on your unique situation; however, resistance to change is one of the most significant. People want something different but they don’t want to change. People want change but do not want to be changed. Resistance can be subtle, like being late to meetings, or overt, like a public showdown. Resistance protects the status quo. Whatever the form, resistance has to be addressed to create progress.

Another challenge is finding the balance between personal evolution and responsible adulting. It typically takes time to get used to a new mindset and behaviors. And the people in your world need to catch up to where you are so you may find yourself wanting to evolve while others are wanting to keep you how they know you. This is about self-care while being responsible to the outcomes you’ve put in motion. That’s where having a tough shift coach can help.

Additionally, I would add that you need to trust yourself. When you have a big vision of  your future, you aren’t always able to see the changes happening so it becomes easy to question yourself — your abilities, your vision, your decisions. At some point, you may feel the urge or need to stop (which can induce a sense of self-doubt or guilt). It’s all part of the tough shift… and we’ll work through those moments together.

Many people want their own business as part of their ideal lifestyle. So, in a word, yes. You won’t have sales without marketing. Marketing naturally leads to sales. Why? Because marketing is helping someone see how a solution meets their needs. It is conceptual in that it’s about what is possible. Done well, the sale becomes a formality.

On the other hand, sales is the art of personalizing the solution so your customer sees how it meets their needs; it is the transactional part of the relationship.

The relationship between you and your customer begins at the first touch point of marketing. It shows people who you really are-your integrity, your focus, your willingness to help and celebrate their victory. That customer develops comfort with you and has placed their trust in your solution (or brand); it is up to you to continue to earn it.

When you understand that marketing and sales are a facet of every aspect of your life, and that it is the mechanism by which you can grow your lifestyle business, revenues, and even thought leadership – you will likely find you naturally have a more positive relationship with the process. My role is to foster your mindset to support the process so you can claim the lifestyle you want through your business.

Sometimes when people share their lifestyle dream that includes a business, that alone gives them clarity. However, I also have a hands-on approach to mentoring. For example, I have several massage therapists who worked for and with me who now run their own very successful businesses around the country.

There are times when my clients have gained value simply by talking through their current challenges. Other times, they have to go deeper and write out their vision, get personal feedback on how they’re showing up, or what they can say to people. My work is really personalized; each of my clients gets what they need as they need it. The testimonials and stories of my clients can be seen throughout my site; their words tell the story better than I can.

One of my gifts is making concepts relatable to people. I live what I teach so I know what comes up when making the tough shift and in living the lifestyle you really want – I’ve been there. So I show my clients through my experience how to make the tough shifts that make the difference. If a guy who grew up in Chicago can move to SoCal, make a living by doing what he loves, staying healthy by playing in the sun, sand, and mountains… well, you can have it too. But you have to make the tough shift to have it… it’s not easy to go up against how you grew up, what other people see for you, or staying put in your comfort zone. Growth is not comfortable… but I get it. And I’m here to help.

Ironically it’s when you have responsibilities that you MUST follow your heart! When you are happy, healthy and whole, you have more to give to your responsibilities. It’s when you are going through the motions that you will likely repress resentment that comes out in weird ways, feeling discouraged, depressed, in a funk, tired, and maybe even bitter. In that scenario, nobody wins. But when you follow your heart, you feel lighter, happier and energized – and that allows you to have more inner resources, which translates to meeting your responsibilities with more dynamic presence. After all, will your car go anywhere if you don’t fill the gas tank?

The short answer – no. And I don’t think you want it to because that means you’re 6 feet under the ground! You’re here to live your best life, to fulfill your unique potential, to contribute meaningfully and live life on your terms. As you get to your next best level, you will discover another one… and then another one. However, you might learn how to take action on your own and not need a tough shift coach anymore. In any case, I consider us partners in you achieving your best life once we begin working together.

Yes, with the understanding that you are responsible for your results. For example, if we work together and you don’t take action as agreed, there’s not much I can do about that. I know the power of focus and clarity in creating transformation; my role is to bring that about through compassionate communication and practical action guidance. Your role is to follow through and do what’s needed to have the results you really want. If you are unsatisfied at any time, we need to work together to understand why and come up with a resolution together.
