The signs are clear:

I get it. I grew up in the Midwest under gloomy skies and bad weather – it was either cloudy gray, rainy, and cold or it was bone-chilling freezing, or it was so humid I felt like I was melting. I would see ads or movies where people were in sunshine, smiling, happy… and it wasn’t me. When it came to work, I did everything from construction to jobs not worth mentioning. Everything I knew was in Chicago, but I knew I needed something that suited me. I had to make a shift, and it wasn’t going to be easy. Leaving Chicago to go for massage school was a big deal – and it changed my life. I got to experience an outdoors lifestyle along with learning a new skill. I talked with people every day who had different dreams than my friends back home. Of course, I missed everybody, but I wanted my life to be different – happier and healthier – and to help others have the same through my work as a massage therapist. That was the first time I had to make a Tough Shift… by not going back ‘home’ to what was familiar and comfortable.  

That’s how I understand where you are now… knowing that life has more to give you but not quite sure how to get it. You’ve got dreams but don’t know how to get them. You’re not sure about going for it because it will change everything and you’ll have to go beyond what’s known, familiar, and expected. You have to leave your known comfortable situation to get to something different but it’s unknown… you’ve never had what it is you want so it’s hard to predict what it will be like but it’s still calling you. It doesn’t matter what it is… some people get wanderlust, some people just want to make more money, some people want to feel like they have more freedom… but what do YOU want? Whatever that thing is, it’s going to keep calling you out. It’s going to keep pulling you forward until you go for it – or until you let it go completely. Either way, you’re going to have to make a Tough Shift to have what you really want or accept the life you have now. The good news is that you don’t have to do it alone.  

What to Expect

Going for different results in life is going to push you in ways you can’t really predict right now. You’ll be tested in ways you never imagined. That’s why it helps to have somebody who gets it and can help you. Just like you wouldn’t set out to swashbuckle your way through the Amazonian jungle without a guide, it’s challenging to hit a life pivot point and hold onto it when everything wants to keep you where you are. Why does that happen? Well, your reptilian brain knows that your ‘now’ is safe, even if you’re not happy. Your family and friends love you so they want to protect you by keeping you in the situation that’s always been and they know is safe. Even your own habits will want to keep you doing the same things! The harder you pull for something new is the same energy, the same resistance, that will fight to keep you the same as you are today. And that’s why we need to talk… because you need to make a Tough Shift. And I am here to help you.

The Tough Shift can be easier

My clients usually say they wished they had started with me sooner because they start living the life they actually want. The biggest part of making a Tough Shift is keeping your head screwed on right about it. Mindset is everything. You have to keep your head in the game of what you want every… single…minute of every…single…day until you have what you want. You have to handle the obstacles, the barriers, the resistance, the self-talk, the criticism and judgements from other people… you have to handle your own belief systems about what you can have, your excuses about why you don’t want to do something different today, your confidence that wants to falter every time you think about what you have to do to have what you want. There’s a reason it’s called the Tough Shift. But when you want what you want, you do what you need to do. Sometimes that means having somebody in your corner to pull you out of your own crap so you can move forward faster. That's where I come in... we work together in virtual 1:1 sessions so you can make the Tough Shift easier.
